Coronavirus fear and anxiety tips

There is a lot of information coming out in the news and social media about Coronavirus (Covid-19). Some of this is fake, some to get attention, some to make you click onto another page, some to be funny and in amongst all of that there may be some truth.

Our news channels and feeds are flooded with all of this and it is having an impact on many people. Shops are empty, restaurants and town centres deserted. The information coming out (real, fake and funny) is driving different behaviour. This may be a good change - regular proper washing of your hands is not a bad thing. When it builds into rituals that must be carried out for fear that if not something terrible will happen or feeling too anxious to live your life then this is not good.

Here are some tips for managing fear and anxiety

  • Limit your exposure to the information coming out

  • Find your trusted source of information (e.g. a person you trust, a government website)

  • If you use social media - It’s ok to ‘snooze’ /‘mute’ people and groups that are causing you stress when you read what they are writing. If you watch the news (streamed, TV or video) then limit your time. You do NOT need to check it every hour!

  • If you start to feel anxious take a moment out and breathe. (Contact me directly for tips on how to breathe to help stress and anxiety)

  • Keep an open mind and question what you are being told. Is it true? Is it true for them or everyone? What does it mean to you?

If your anxiety and fear has gone beyond help from these tips then please reach out for further help (video conference is available if you don’t wish to travel)
